MEDIA RELEASE

The RAC Rescue Experience was in full swing at last weekend’s Emergency Services Open Day in Gosnells, giving local residents who hoped on board a great insight into the incredible work that the RAC Rescue helicopters do every hour of every day.

RAC Sponsorship Manager, Carina McBurnie, said the RAC Rescue Experience is a four minute, 360 degree virtual reality experience showing Western Australians what really happens during a rescue.

“The experience covers the entire mission, from taking flight through to attending the scene of a car crash and then transferring the patient to hospital,” Ms McBurnie said.

“It’s a real insight into the incredible work the crews do on board the RAC Rescue helicopters and on the ground every day.”

Given more than half of the missions flown by the RAC Rescue helicopters are to road crashes, the RAC Rescue Experience also carries an important road safety message; to remind people to take care on the roads.

Members of the public can get on board the RAC Rescue Experience at a number of community events this year including RAC Perth Caravan & Camping Show, RAC Easter Pit Stop and the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro.

RAC proudly sponsors two emergency rescue helicopters, one based in Perth and the other in Bunbury, together they cover more than 95 per cent of the state’s population.

The RAC Rescue helicopters, funded by the State Government and managed by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES), are WA’s only dedicated 24/7 emergency rescue helicopter service.

The service has flown more than 6000 missions, assisting with critical care medical services, essential hospital transfers and search and rescue missions.
