RAC is calling on Western Australians to nominate WA’s most dangerous roads and intersections, as part of its latest campaign to improve road safety across the State.
Nominations are now open for RAC’s state-wide Risky Roads survey, which asks all road users to submit the roads or intersections they believe are dangerous in both Perth and regional WA.
RAC General Manager External Relations Will Golsby said it’s an opportunity for the community to be heard on road safety issues in WA.
“No one knows our roads better than the people who drive, ride, walk or cycle on them every day, and we all have that particular street or intersection that makes us feel nervous or unsafe,” Mr Golsby said.
“Whether it’s a local street where the speed limit is too fast, a highway with narrow lanes, or an intersection with little chance for pedestrians to cross — we want you to tell us where these dangerous spots are.
“Our Risky Roads survey is an opportunity for all Western Australians to have their say and call for more action on road safety.
“Feedback from the campaign will help RAC continue to call for safer roads in Perth and regional WA by working with government and road safety agencies to address community concerns.”
Last year, WA recorded its highest number of road fatalities in five years, with 166 people killed on our roads. Someone is killed or seriously injured on a WA road every five hours.
“Sadly, WA consistently has one of the worst road safety records in the country and far too many people continue to lose their lives on our roads each year,” Mr Golsby said.
“Better road design and maintenance plays a significant role in reducing deaths and serious injuries on our roads.”
Nominations are encouraged from all corners of the State, and from all road users including drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians.
