I have received a letter from the Department of Transport which tells me to contact my insurance company to return my licence plates. If I don’t, I will get a fine.

The Department of Transport send out a standard letter to all who’ve had their vehicle written off. This letter can come across as firm worded. Please do not worry! Unless otherwise advised, RAC will hand back your licence plates to the Department of Transport within 30 days of your payment being issued. After this time, you can approach The Department of Transport to apply for a refund on the unused portion of your vehicle’s registration.
