If you require emergency assistance for storm damage, call the State Emergency Service (SES) anytime on 13 25 00.

If you have a current home or contents policy from RAC, or both your building or contents are covered if they’re damaged or destroyed by a storm (including cyclones) – up to your sums insured.

If you have a current RAC Comprehensive Car Insurance policy, you car is covered if it is damage or destroyed by a storm (including cyclones) - up to your sum insured.

Building insurance from RAC covers loss or damage to your fences and gates caused by storms, as long as they were structurally sound and well maintained prior to the damage or loss occurring.*

You can claim online for your storm damaged fence 24/7. Generally, we offer a cash settlement for fence repairs, once you’ve made a claim and we’ve approved it. If it’s a shared fence, the fence belongs to you and your neighbour so you’ll need to organise repairs with them.

For shared fences, once you’ve lodged a claim and we’ve approved it, generally we give you a cash settlement to cover your share of the fence. Then you organise the repairs.

In summary, the process is that you:

1. Make a claim.
2. Talk to your neighbour. They’re responsible for their share of the fence repair costs
3. Get a quote from a fence repairer.
4. Pay for your share of the fence repair with your cash settlement.

We’ll try to settle your fence claim as soon as possible. Once your claim is approved and processed, you should receive payment within seven business days.
