Across a blue coastline and through the Red Centre, the best way to experience the vast remoteness of Australia is by pairing a journey on the Indian Pacific with The Ghan. Departing Perth, you'll cross the Nullarbor, travelling along the world's longest stretch of straight railway track. You'll stop for two nights in Adelaide before boarding The Ghan heading towards your final destination, Darwin.

Indian Pacific & The Ghan

Indian Pacific

With its bold wedge-tailed eagle emblem symbolising the scope, range and significance of each epic journey, the Indian Pacific traverses mountain ranges, passes through arid deserts and goldfields, rocky valleys and subtropical savannahs on its transcontinental crossings.
Named for the two oceans the train encounters on its journey, the Indian Pacific travels between Perth, Adelaide and Sydney on a spectacular 4352km crossing. There’s no better way to experience the spectacular interior landscape of Australia than by the romance of rail. Choose from one of the following Indian Pacific journeys for the foundation of your adventure.

The Ghan

Regarded as one of the world’s greatest train journeys, The Ghan delivers so much more than an extended train ride. It promises access to parts of Australia no other holiday can come close to – the perfect balance of comfort and adventure, culminating in an experience that will move you in every sense of the word. In 2019, The Ghan marked 90 years of outback crossings. Much has changed since 1929, and today The Ghan offers more than transit between Adelaide to Darwin and vice versa. Onboard you will find sumptuous dining, elegant private cabins, attentive service, and the camaraderie of your fellow travellers. And when the train stops, the adventures begin. Choose from a range of included Off Train Experiences to create a rewarding personal journey through Australia’s outback and beyond. Travel on The Ghan or book The Ghan Expedition – an extended journey – as the foundation for your next adventure. Your rail journey can also be enhanced with a choice of tailored holiday packages.
