What does it cost to charge an electric car?
Find out how the cost of charging an EV depends on battery size and electricity pricing.
A decade-long RAC electric vehicle charging program has concluded following a positive surge in EV uptake and charger availability across WA.
The RAC Electric Highway was launched in 2015 as a first-of-its-kind demonstration project in Australia, and over its journey grew to offer 16 electric vehicle charging locations between Monkey Mia and Esperance. It served as a catalyst project to encourage both government and private investment in the infrastructure required for electric vehicles.

RAC EV charging stations at RAC’s office in West Perth, selected RAC Parks and Resorts, RAC Auto Service Centres and Treendale Shopping Centre, Australind are not part of this change and will continue to be offered by RAC.
For more than 120 years, RAC has been committed to improving the way our members move around their communities.
The network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the South West supported essential connections for motorists, encouraged EV adoption, and helped attract further investment from government and industry into EV infrastructure. Over the years, it has also enabled valuable knowledge sharing and collaboration.
The initiative has contributed to our broader efforts to reduce harmful emissions from cars in WA and supports our commitment to a safer, more sustainable, and better-connected future for all Western Australians.
RAC has played an important role in setting the stage for the growth of electric vehicles in Western Australia. RAC remains strongly engaged in this critical policy space and continues to advocate for governments to prioritise charging infrastructure and other measures that will accelerate the transition to low-emissions vehicles.
