RAC is urging drivers to play their part in ensuring all Western Australians get home safe as National Road Safety Week begins.
Western Australia saw 184 road deaths in 2025 and is experiencing one of the worst starts to the year for death on our roads, as National Road Safety Week commences.
The important annual initiative which runs from 17 - 24 May 2026 highlights the impact of road trauma and ways to reduce it.
RAC Head of Communications Rhys Heron said National Road Safety Week is an opportunity to reflect on the devastating impact of road trauma and to keep road safety top-of-mind.
“So far this year we are on track to record one of our worst levels of road deaths in more than a decade,” Mr Heron said.
“The impact of road trauma on individuals, families, friends, and communities is far reaching, and we need to do all we can to make our roads safer for everyone.”
RAC will be handing out yellow flowers across Perth and the South West this week, to encourage motorists to “slow down and smell the flowers” and remember the lives lost on our roads.
“This week is a call-out to all Western Australians to have a conversation about road safety with those they care about and make a commitment to always travel safe,” Mr Heron said.
“We all share a responsibility to make our roads safe, whether we’re driving, riding or walking - let National Road Safety Week be a turning point for change.”
National Road Safety Week was created by the Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group and is proudly supported by RAC.
