If the bus is driverless, will someone be there to take control if necessary?

The Intellibus carries passengers along a 3.5km route in the City of South Perth along the South Perth Esplanade. Rides depart the RAC Intellibus® Hub every 30 minutes on Thursdays and Fridays from 9:30am to 3:30pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. 

Rides are available Tuesdays to Sundays during the school holidays.

To adhere with seatbelt legislation, passengers must be over the age of 7; those aged 7-14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The Intellibus has been fitted with removable ramps and we have been working with the manufacturer to incorporate automated ramps, to see if we can assist please email: intellibus@rac.com.au

The RAC Intellibus operates on public roads on the South Perth foreshore mixing with cars, pedestrians, cyclists and other road users.

While the vehicle has a maximum speed of 45km per hour, the Intellibus trial limits the speed to about 18km per hour.

The Intellibus capacity is 11 passengers seated, however our bookings systems allow for up to 6 passengers to book per ride to ensure an optimal experience and leave additional seats for our Chaperones.  

Two Chaperones are onboard at all times, one of which constantly monitors the driving task, remaining attentive to the traffic environment and ready to take back control of the vehicle if necessary.
