For insurance policyholders

We understand that family violence is a very complex and personal issue and can create difficult situations. The safety and protection of you and your family is our paramount priority and we are committed to supporting you through this.

Family violence means much more than physical violence. It includes emotional, psychological, sexual or financial abuse; or damage to property.

If you are at risk of harm, we encourage you to contact the police or other emergency services.

Our aim is to be responsive to your needs and to minimise any potential distress that our interaction may cause.

How can RAC Insurance support you

  1. Responsive Service Delivery
We will treat you with care and sensitivity and be responsive to your particular needs when delivering our services.
  2. Your sensitive information
    1. We encourage you to share any concerns regarding your situation so that we can work with you towards the best outcome.
    2. We will ensure access only to those staff who need to know these details and will prevent disclosure of your particularly sensitive information to the perpetrator or any other person/s you advise.
    3. We have systems in place to protect your personal information.
    4. If you are a joint policy-holder, there is some information that will be available to both parties. We can clarify this so that you can make any necessary arrangements.
  3. Access and communication
We will have steps in place to minimise the number of times you need to disclose information about the family violence and work with you to determine the best approach to meet your needs.
  4. Insurance claims
When you have a claim under your policy, we will ensure that our claims handling process is appropriate and sensitive to your situation.
  5. Financial Hardship
We understand that family violence can be a cause of financial difficulties, therefore we encourage you to let us know if you need access to Financial Hardship support. We can fast track any Financial Hardship requests and consider other ways that may assist.
