Footy, Learning and Road Safety
Building Safer Communities in the Kimberley.
Official road safety partner of the Fremantle Dockers
We’re proud to be the official road safety partner of the Fremantle Dockers bringing together two iconic brands. Since 2019, the Freo Dockers and RAC have engaged thousands of footy fans to raise awareness of road safety initiatives.
Every year, too many lives are lost on WA roads. Through one of WA's most loved sports, we can start important conversations about road safety and the impact of road trauma, encourage safer behaviours on our roads, and make a meaningful difference for RAC members and the wider WA community.
It’s also about giving back to RAC members and the WA community. We do this through our focus on road safety education and connection to community through footy.
Check out how we’re giving back to WA

This program is a great example of how footy, education, and community can come together. The program supports primary and secondary students across the Kimberley region through education, wellbeing, and footy skills development. It’s delivered by the Purple Hands Foundation, the charitable arm of the Fremantle Dockers with support from WA Police and a number of other partners.
As a supporting partner of the program, RAC offers road safety workshops presented by teachers in classrooms throughout the school year. Students learn about seatbelt, bike and helmet safety through engaging videos and hands-on lessons. The aim is to inspire young people across the Kimberley to make safer choices on the road.
The program culminates in Broome at the end of the year with the Kimberley 9s Carnival for a game of footy on Cable Beach.

We provide road safety education to young players via the Freo Dockers community programs. Through these engaging workshops, we explore peer pressure and mental resilience to encourage young people to make safer decisions behind the wheel or in the passenger seat. Our aim is to help them learn to keep themselves and their mates safe on the road.
We recently partnered with the Fremantle Dockers to deliver a road safety education session for 75 Colts and Rogers players from Hammond Park Junior Football Club. Players aged 15 to 19 took part in a unique experience that combined training with AFL coaches and interactive learning, exploring the link between mental resilience and safe driving. The session also included RAC’s impairment goggles, giving players a firsthand understanding of how fatigue and impairment can affect judgement and coordination. Guest speakers from HappinessCo and the Paraplegic Benefit Fund shared personal experiences, helping to reinforce key road safety messages and bring the learning to life.
We’ll be increasing our presence at upcoming Freo Dockers games days, as well as through club channels, fan engagement and game-day experiences. This year, our road safety messaging appeals to footy fans to play their role and make a game plan to get home safe for their loved ones.
Every year, footy fans get to experience RAC’s road safety games at Fremantle Dockers AFL & AFLW home games. This is about raising awareness and being safer on WA roads.
