Motorbikes and scooters can be heaps of fun, but they also come with specific risks. As a rider, there are rules you should follow that will help you stay safer on our roads.

Riding a motorcycle or scooter is very different from driving a car. Having only two wheels requires more physical and mental effort. Because riders are so exposed, they’re at risk of more severe injuries in the event of a crash.

Riders should:

  • Stay alert and scan the road to see what’s happening around you.
  • Never ride under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Take plenty of rest breaks when riding long distances.
  • Wear the correct protective clothing. This will make a big difference in reducing the severity of an injury in an accident. Download The Good Gear Guide.*
  • Remember, the faster you’re going, the more likely you are to crash. Speed also contributes to the severity of an injury.
