Isn't the star rating based on passive safety?
The star rating is based on an assessment of a combination of passive crash protection, active crash avoidance and post-crash safety.
Physical crash tests are conducted to simulate a range of common crash types and measure the protection provided to adult occupants, child occupants and vulnerable road users.
In addition, each vehicle is assessed for the presence and effectiveness of Safety Assist collision avoidance technologies – active safety systems that can help avoid or reduce the severity of a crash. These include autonomous emergency braking systems, lane support systems, automatic emergency steering, speed assistance systems, driver monitoring systems and child presence detection.
Finally, vehicles are assessed on the safe rescue and extrication of occupants in the event of a crash.
