What is the difference between star ratings for new cars and second hand cars?
There are two completely separate programs which provide car ratings.
ANCAP crash tests are performed on new vehicles entering the Australasian market and show the vehicle’s level of passenger and pedestrian protection. These ratings are determined by data obtained through the simulation of common crash scenarios and are undertaken in a controlled laboratory.
Second-hand car ratings can be determined through the Used Cars Safety Ratings (UCSRs) where scores are given through the analysis of real-life crash statistics.
