Personal alarm is monitored 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by our Grade A1 Monitoring Emergency Response Centre, the highest level of certification available.

The personal alarm system consists of a small counter-top unit and a lightweight, waterproof emergency pendant which can be worn around the home at all times – out in the garden, at night in bed or even in the bath and shower.

Simply press the help button on the pendant or unit to activate an emergency alarm. The button lights up to let you know your call for help is being sent. When you hear the operator, you can communicate with them by speaking to the base unit.
If the operator is unable to hear you, they’ll assume it’s an emergency and will respond accordingly.

Can the personal alarm unit be sold without the monitoring and can I use another security provider?
No – The unit is pre- programmed to report to the RAC Security monitoring centre.
What range does the emergency pearl pendant have from the counter-top base unit?
The manufacturer quotes 300m in the open air – it will be less inside a house. The monitoring centre will test the range when first setting up the unit.
What is the range of voice activation in the home?
The speaker can generally be heard in most areas of the house – depending on the type of house (e.g. units or homettes have a longer range) – remember if we don’t get any response we assume the worst and send an ambulance.
If I am on the telephone and an incident occurs, can I activate the unit or pearl pendant?
Yes – the unit connects to our monitoring centre via a wireless sim card, so it completely by-passes the need for a telephone line and also works stand alone to the NBN.
Are the pearl pendants water-resistant and can I still shower and bath with them on?
Yes – Personal alarm pearl pendants are not only water-resistant but are also completely waterproof to IP67 Ratings, far exceeding the required specifications.
Are the unit's buttons visible at night or in the dark?
Yes – the personal alarm’s “Red Help” button is softly backlit to ensure it can be easily identified in the event of an emergency in low light or at night time.
If RAC sends an ambulance, is it at a cost to me?
Yes, only if transported. RAC does not pay for the ambulance transport. We recommend you have an ambulance membership or include in your health cover.
How can I tell if the personal alarm unit is still functional and ready to transmit a call for help at all times?
Personal alarm units automatically inform you, both audibly and visually, of any problem with the connection and advise of a pending communication failure.
If the mains power is disconnected, will my unit still operate?
Yes, the emergency device will still be fully operational on its back up battery for up to 3 days.
Can the battery in the pearl pendant be replaced?
No the battery cannot be replaced. It requires a new pearl pendant.
How long does the pearl pendant battery last?
Pearl batteries have an expected life of up to 6 years. A Pearl with a low battery cannot be “learnt into” a base unit.
What power surge and lightning protection does the unit have for reliability?
Personal alarm units have special internal power surge circuity, an integral earthed plug pack and inbuilt earth shunt facilities incorporated into the unit. This reduces and almost eliminates failures and damage from moderate power and lighting surges.
Will the unit interfere with a pacemaker or hearing aid?
There has been no evidence to suggest any interference with either pacemakers or hearing aids. The equipment complies with the relevant Australian Standards AS4607/AS2999 (Personal Response Systems).
