Here in WA, we love to travel. Whether it's a short flight to south-east Asia or a non-stop long haul to London, Western Australians love to explore. But what exactly are our favourite things about travelling? We asked you, and the results are in - here are the top five reasons Western Australians love a holiday.

1. Discovering new places

Perhaps the most obvious perk of travel is the sheer volume of man-made attractions or natural wonders out there to see. If it's your dream to picnic under the Eiffel Tower, or to climb to the summit of Machu Picchu, travel allows you to do it in just a few plane rides.

2. Rest and relaxation

Let's face it, everyone could use a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life. While travel can be associated as energetic and fast-paced, there are plenty of trips for those seeking a more relaxed and rejuvenating experience. Whether it's a luxurious resort, a wellness retreat or a guided walk through a rainforest, travel is a great way to unwind and refresh.

3. Trying new cuisines

There's a reason 'foodie travel' is on the rise - there are some incredible global cuisines out there just waiting to be sampled. Eating local food in a new country gives you an entirely new experience packed with some curious ingredients. Plus, opening your tastebuds up to these new and exciting things may help you discover foods that you didn't even know you liked.

4. Meeting new people

Travelling is a sure-fire way to expand your social network. Whether it's at a hotel, restaurant or by the beach, interacting with others is a great way to accumulate insider knowledge on the area or even hear of other interesting places worth visiting while on your trip.

5. A shift in perspective

Being exposed to a variety of new cultures, people and traditions may not only benefit you personally, but you can also develop a healthier perspective once you return back home. Whether you travel locally or halfway across the globe, a glimpse at culture beyond your home can be extremely beneficial. Travel can also earn you some much-needed energy - and could also enhance your attitude and productivity when heading back to your normal daily routine.
