With its bold wedge-tailed eagle emblem symbolising the scope, range and significance of each epic journey, the Indian Pacific traverses mountain ranges, passes through arid deserts and goldfields, rocky valleys and subtropical savannahs on its transcontinental crossings.
Named for the two oceans the train encounters on its journey, the Indian Pacific travels between Perth, Adelaide and Sydney on a spectacular 4352km crossing. There’s no better way to experience the spectacular interior landscape of Australia than by the romance of rail.

Perth to Sydney
Day 1: Perth and Kalgoorlie
Your journey from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific Ocean begins as you pull away from the platform in Perth mid-morning. Enjoy a modern Australian lunch as you watch the scenery glide by and get to know your fellow travellers. Indulge in a three-course dinner prior to your late evening arrival into Kalgoorlie.
Day 2: Nullarbor Plain
Awake to watch the sunrise unfold across the spectacular expanse of the Nullarbor Plain. Waiting ahead is the charm of the once thriving Nullarbor railway community — now ghost town — of Cook.
Another mouth-watering dinner is followed by time to relax with the rhythm of the train in the lounge or your cabin before a restful night’s sleep.
Day 3: Adelaide
On arrival in Adelaide, you have the choice of a city walking tour (seasonal), a behind-the-scenes experience of Adelaide Oval, a guided walk through Adelaide Central Market, or a coach tour of the city sights.
Day 4: Blue Mountains and Sydney
Wake in the picturesque Blue Mountains. See the majestic Three Sisters at Echo Point and the views at Jamison Valley before completing your journey on our chartered New South Wales rail service (fully hosted by our staff) into Sydney Central Station. Alternatively, stay on board the Indian Pacific to travel directly to Sydney.
The Indian Pacific also operates in opposite direction Sydney to Perth, departing Sydney on Wednesdays. Please check with your local RAC Travel Centre for availability and pricing.
